HOW DO WE BECOME AWAKEN TO HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS?
To enter higher conscious state, one must be able to observe
lower consciousness’ thoughts and emotions. Normally,
we don’t observe our thoughts because we’re under the
influence of the ego. We merely go along with the thoughts. We don’t
usually step back and look at the “thoughts”
as objects. We assume we are the controller of the
mind. But that’s not true. If we were the controller then we
should be able to tell the mind to stop thinking and it would do so.
However, this is not the case; the mind will still think regardless
of what you want it to do.
HOW CAN WE CONTROL THE THINKING THEN?
We don’t. This is the practice of meditation. We train ourselves
to let go of the thoughts to free ourselves from
stress. We don’t try to control the mind or force it to stop
thinking. When you try to control it, the ego mind will resist you
even more. By controlling or forcing the mind, you’re
feeding the ego so it creates more thoughts. When you let
go of the thoughts, you stop feeding the ego, thus there is less
resistance. Through consistent practice of meditation, you can let
go of the thoughts to the point where the mind becomes completely
still and here the mind enters higher consciousness.
THE PRACTICE SOUNDS DIFFICULT. DON’T WE NEED THOUGHTS TO
EXIST?
Actually, the practice isn’t difficult. It’s a very
simple practice and yet, it’s very effective because it frees
your mind from the negative emotions. Stress is created
by thought itself (negative reaction); therefore, we learn
to let go of the thoughts. We don’t lose the ability
to think. We’re simply shifting our consciousness
from lower to higher state. Instead of relying on reactive thinking
(habit), we rely on insight and wisdom from higher consciousness.
Most of our thoughts from lower consciousness are repetitive and
not useful. It keeps thinking of the past and the future and doesn’t
want to be still (restlessness). It judges everything so it creates
preferences (likes and dislikes). This activity (judging) creates
fluctuation in the mind which causes you to experience emotional
roller coaster going from pleasure to displeasure, happy
to sad, love to hate, etc.
Unfortunately, most people are caught up in their own emotions
and become emotionally stuck. But, we can become “unstuck”
and completely eliminate stress from our lives by accessing higher
consciousness.
Meditation practice creates a bridge for us to
cross from lower consciousness to higher conscious state.
