IF HIGHER CONSCIOUSNESS IS ALREADY HERE
WITHIN US, WHY DON’T WE SEE OR EXPERIENCE IT MORE OFTEN?
What prevents us from experiencing higher consciousness is lower
consciousness itself. Lower consciousness occupies most of our existence.
Your daily living revolves around seeing, hearing, touching, tasting,
smelling and thinking. Because of its survival instinct, the mind
evaluates or judges everything that comes through the 5 senses of
sight, sound, touch, taste and smell.
For example: How did you decide on your favorite
movie, music, food or friend? You decide by judging it. After you
watch a particular movie, your mind makes a judgment, and it generates
an emotional response to the movie: “I like it”,
which produces a positive feeling or “I
don’t like it”, which produces a negative
feeling.
The mind judges all objects, situation or people that it comes
in contact. As the results of judging, you get a huge database
of “likes” and “dislikes” in your
mind. These preferences determine how you behave and make your daily
decision. They form your habits in life.
More importantly, lower consciousness also generates stress.
When it doesn’t like something, the mind generates negative
emotions such as anxiety, sorrow, depression, anger, hatred, pain,
worry or fear.
HOW CAN WE LIBERATE OURSELVES FROM THESE NEGATIVE EMOTIONS?
We need to train the mind so we can go from lower to higher consciousness.
These negative feelings do not exist in higher conscious state because
it doesn’t judge. Here the mind is completely content. It’s
contentment with insight and wisdom. You experience immense happiness
beyond description. True happiness is independent and unconditional.
When you discover this, you experience your TRUE SELF, and your
motivation comes from kindness and compassion.
Lower consciousness or the ego is our FALSE SELF. Its motivation
comes from selfishness which is based on fear (survival instinct
of fight or flight). It can only experience conditional happiness.
For example: When people are asked the question
“Are you happy?” and they answer “yes.”
They actually mean conditional happiness. They are happy as long
as they have their health, job, money, etc. As long as these conditions
are favorable, they’re happy. But as soon as these conditions
change in the opposite direction such as losing their health, job,
or money; they now feel miserable.
So, the solution to the problem of stress (negative emotions) is
to move from lower to higher consciousness.
